a little bit of scrapping

SDC15390

Now I shouldn’t really moan but it has been very hot here, it’s definitely sitting out in the garden reading weather. I have however managed, very slowly, to follow Shimelle’s latest class over on UKS.

The photos are not the best but the evening was and needed to be scrapped. Sitting in the church watching my granddaughter sing in the school choir was very special but then walking out into a lovely night with a clear sky showing us Mars, Venus and Jupiter was the end to a perfect evening!

summer has arrived!

After many weeks of waiting and moaning Summer has finally arrived and we decided to make the most of it and go for a walk. We are very fortunate to have such a beautiful coastline to explore and yesterday we decided to go to Ramsgate.

SDC15371

We have been to the harbour before

SDC15359

a beautiful place on a sunny morning

SDC15367

this little boat was owned by a survivor from the Titanic and sailed on a rescue mission to Dunkirk during the war

SDC15373

we sat on the beach eating ice creams and watching the ferry arrive

SDC15338

and then we walked along the Great Wall of Ramsgate

SDC15385

amongst the paintings on the wall was this little gem by a local school

SDC15349

this one of the harbour

SDC15340

I loved the detail on this one

SDC15358

I even managed to find number 4 – a roadside stand selling something, for Rinda's scavenger hunt.

A lovely way to spend a morning!

scavenger hunt

Time for a few more photos I’ve collected for Rinda's scavenger hunt.

SDC15325

18. A movie poster- I love our quaint little seaside cinema!

SDC15331

1. a pier – summer has finally arrived and our pier has come alive.

SDC15333

16. a bride – we had a Victorian fair here yesterday and I was impressed by all the details on these little bride dolls.

After an appalling spring and early summer it’s so nice to have a bit of warm weather without it being too hot. The school holidays have begun and I’ve already had a message from our grandson asking us to play tennis this morning, better look out the racquets and balls!!

olympic torch

The Olympic Torch came to our part of the country and we accompanied the children to get a glimpse of it.

SDC15273

Each class had made a banner and their own torch to wave.

SDC15280

Alex’s class

SDC15276

A squashed Rebecca!

SDC15293

The teacher’s entertained themselves and the children by dancing to Grease Lightening and Dancing Queen.

SDC15294

The police also got into the spirit of the thing by keeping the children happy.

SDC15298

and then it all began to happen

SDC15320

the torch went by

SDC15321

and was passed on

SDC15324

and we will all be able to say “ I remember seeing the Olympic torch go by”

a visit to Walmer Castle

I have one photo to share for Rinda's scavenger photo hunt.

SDC15237

3. A border of lavender around Walmer Castle

We had a lovely morning looking round the castle which was built during the reign of Henry VIII. it has now become the home of the Warden of the Cinque Ports, a position held by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, the Duke of Wellington and Winston Churchill.

SDC15246

This is Wellington’s bed and the chair he died in.

SDC15250

Queen Victoria slept in this bed during a family holiday.

SDC15252

There are many cannons facing the sea to ward of invasion. Winston Churchill would not live here as he thought the enemy might destroy the castle if they knew he was in residence.

SDC15236

I particularly liked the kitchen gardens with all the apple trees.

we are blessed with a lot of castles round here but I have to say this one is my favourite.

Diamond Jubilee

SDC15224

I wanted to scrap this event while it was still fresh in my mind, after all we don’t have celebrations like this very often!

I used a photo template by Kerri Bradford from a class by Nichol Magouirk and the little flag embellishment I copied from one of Shimelle's layouts.

summer scavenger hunt

I have two more photos to share for Rinda's summertime photo scavenger hunt.

SDC15223

19 – an outdoor stairway. We had a lovely walk this morning along by the sea and somehow we didn’t mind climbing all those steps as it was so pretty ( and good exercise).

SDC15216

2 – a clothesline. You don’t often see net curtains on my line, we must be having visitors!!

my month in photos

2012_collage copy

June was a month of visits and celebrations.

We had a street party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Mum came to visit and we had a short holiday with Peter. Even Queen Victoria made an appearance.

It finished with a fun afternoon watching Rebecca’s sports day.

unexpected visitors

It’s the first of the month again and time for another Storytelling Sunday hosted by Sian

I love birds and since we’ve moved here have been lucky enough to see a wide range in our garden. Nothing however can beat the morning I looked out the window and saw two peacocks ambling up our drive. They walked through to the back garden and settled in our greenhouse.

Now to start of with this was very exciting, our own peacocks, how cool was that. The grandchildren came round to see them and the neighbours discussed where they could have come from. The fact that we couldn’t use the greenhouse was unimportant, after all we had peacocks in our garden.

But as the days progressed the peacocks left little presents and suddenly became less endearing. When one messed on our new windows and it was hard to remove the novelty wore off and I just wanted rid of them.

We found out they had walked down our little village road from a big house further down but the owners didn’t seem that bothered

“ they are free roaming birds and will return in their own time” we were informed.

Enough was enough, my tidy nature overcame the fear of what these large birds would do. We decided it was time they moved on.

It took a lot of persuasion, we gently shooed them out of our drive. They did try next door for a while which made us feel a bit bad as she was an elderly lady but she had more nerve than us and soon shooed them back. Eventually though they decided they were bored living with us and went off on their travels again.

I’m not sure if they found their way home in the end and I’m glad they paid us a visit but I’m in no hurry to see them again!!
