My lovely blog friend Melissa sent me this gorgeous parcel of goodies for commenting on her 500th blog post. Do go and have a look at her blog, she certainly inspires me to scrap  and become more organised.

Thank you so much Melissa xx

Oh dear, all that ink!

SDC14555

Over on uks Shimelle has her latest free class up, using a big photo. Now I always worry about the ink I’m using as it seems to cost more than the printer, but I forced myself to print an A4 size for this class. As usual I thoroughly enjoyed following the instructions and although I had to adapt a bit, I’m quite pleased with the result.

using stamps

SDC14551

Another of Shimelle’s prompts, found here was to use a stamp. Last year I loved watching some of the free classes over on 2peas, one in particular showed lots of ways of using stamps. My sons then bought me a stamping class by Jen Gallacher for Mother’s Day so I really have no excuse apart from laziness for using them.

I have started small though with the good times and today stamps from Ali Edwards and the little captured coded stamp from katie pertiet.

I’ve also used some ideas from Shimelle’s glitter girl video on using patterned paper.

mixing papers

The next challenge on Shimelle’s blog here was to mix papers on a layout.

SDC14547

I used doodlebug, Elsie and polar bear papers for this layout.

better late than never

Shimelle held a crop over on her blog here at the weekend and I’ve finally had some time to look at the challenges.

SDC14541

The first challenge was to scraplift a layout by Jaime Warren and here is my attempt.

Shimelle also has a new class in May which is all about making albums rather than pretty pages, can’t wait!

a good week

We’ve had a good week with family, playing games, relaxing or in my case cooking and taking time to visit the zoo.

SDC11995

Last year they had just adopted two orphaned tiger cubs and we spent ages watching them playing and being fed.

SDC14497

How they have grown, but they still like being fed!

SDC14500

Still cute and cuddly.

I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do with just one week away from the computer, I’ll be visiting blogs again very soon.

10THINGS

it’s that time again, the months just seem to fly by. This month I thought I would share ten books I’ve read this year.

1.     13496

Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure what more could you want.

2.     9736930

Imagine waking up each morning with no memory, having to learn who you are and          what has happened to you only to know you will have to go through the same thing the next day, really enjoyed this one.

3.    9226039

A chilling story, well written and hard to put down.

4.   6892870

The final story in the trilogy, loved it.

5.   8630300

Another psychological thriller, I want to find more by this author.

6.   3613997

Always a favourite author of mine.

7.   6251052

One afternoon, single mother Sara Weston says she's going to the store and never returns, the book keeps you wanting to find out more.

8.   9397394

This book tells the story of the last turbulent years of slavery and the early years of freedom in nineteenth-century Jamaica.

9. 7456085

Sibling love and devastating revenge make this a good read.

10. 6578507

What would happen if a letter was never delivered? Found this one a bit slow to be honest.

master chef

SDC14402

I’ve been wanting to scrap these photos taken last October as they show how Jamie enjoys cooking and how we love the results.

I used some ideas from Shimelle, partly her 4 x6 photo love class and also her Hitchhiker’s class. The papers etc are from various Sarah’s Cards kits.

a month in photos

march 2

In March we had a trip to see our little granddaughter .

We waved our grandson off on a weeks holiday with the school.

We took trips to Slimbridge, Westonbirt Arboretum and Sissinghurst Castle.

We spent an entertaining evening in church watching our eldest granddaughter in the school choir.

To see more months in photos, much more professional than mine, go to Rebecca’s blog here  where she also kindly provides a free template.

my month in numbers

SDC14396

I’ve seen several posts recently to do with my month in numbers and thought I would have a go. You can read about this idea on Julie Kirk’s blog here and ideas about how to go about it on this post. I thought it would be a good record to keep in my yearly album so now I’d better get started on the first two months!

Camping the English way!

2011-11-30-14-59-45

My sister sent this old slide photo to me recently and it brought back memories of my first taste of camping. There I am, aged 13yrs on holiday in France with Sue and her husband Rog, it looks idyllic doesn’t it?

We’d started the holiday full of excitement, for me it was my first trip abroad. Getting off the ferry we’d driven 13 hours to reach the campsite only for Sue to say she didn’t like it and wanted to go home, my heart sank as Rog started to turn the car round and said “right”!!

When tempers had calmed down we agreed the sensible thing to do was to try another campsite and eventually we settled down to enjoy our holiday.

One morning we woke up to dark skies and a little rain but that wasn’t going to stop us. We laughed as we set out to do a bit of shopping, our tent left open, what was the matter with these people, hadn’t they seen a bit of rain before? All around us people were digging trenches and securing their tents a bit more carefully “they should live in England” we said “then they wouldn’t worry about a bit of rain”

As we entered the shop on the campsite it suddenly went very dark and the heavens opened, it wasn’t just a bit of rain it was a typhoon! We battled our way back to the tent, Roger running on ahead and valiantly trying to hold it up, but when Sue and I got there it was flattened and everything was a soggy mess.

As for those silly French people? Their tents were still standing of course and they very kindly took pity on three stupid foreigners, letting us sleep the night with them while we sorted out our tent.

We heard later that nine people died at our original campsite as it was right on the beach, I’m so glad we moved on to another one.
